IPM
The Integrated Process Model for Inertial Fusion Energy (IPM) is a techno-economic analysis tool used to assess technical trade-offs and associated economic viability of various inertial fusion power plant designs.
Technology No. 2025-273
The IPM also allows for sensitivity studies and trade space parameter assessments. The IPM receives various input parameters from the user, including driver rep-rate and energy, target gain, chamber diameter, fusion engine materials, duty cycle, and conventional power plant efficiency. The IPM outputs various figures-of-merit, including levelized cost of electricity (LCOE), annual costs, and capital cost. At its core, the IPM is a tool to assess a wide range of inertial fusion power plant architectures within the context of a continuously evolving domestic and global energy landscape.
